Since her mid-teens, Mea has been interested in health and wellness starting with a focus on nutrition, yoga, and later awareness meditation. In her early 20’s after the birth of her daughter, she became a midwife and over the next decade taught prenatal classes and began her work toward the new BC legislation and bringing autonomous midwifery services the province.
In the 80’s she changed her focus by co-founding several successful businesses with her partner Harold Aune, all on the nautical theme, one of which is still active today.
It was in the mid-nineties that Mea discovered the practice of Jin Shin Jyutsu. She received a call from a friend whose sister was admitted to hospital with a sudden diagnosis of terminal lung cancer. Unfortunately, it was the most rapid type and the 46-year-old woman was given only two weeks to live. Her sister asked Mea for her support during this trying time.
What Mea experienced through the assistance of a Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner who offered to help her at the hospital bedside was unlike anything she had ever observed. The situation was dire as the pain medications and oxygen the woman was getting were not enough to stop her pain or make her feel like she could breathe well enough. The Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner was able to help as described below by Mea.
“I watched my friend’s sister go from a level 10 on the scale of anxiety, pain, panic and total despair, to a level 2 in about 20 minutes through a very simple and gentle series of applied steps and just a few words spoken to her by the practitioner. The beauty of this was that this practitioner also gave me, my friend and her two nephews, sons, directions on what we could do ongoing to help. The feeling of calmness, support and caring in the room, combined with the way all of us were actually able to make a difference to the sister’s level of pain and her ability to breathe easier, convinced me that Jin Shin Jyutsu was something I wanted and needed to learn.”
Since then Mea has studied with many of the accredited instructors chosen by Mary Burmeister JSJ Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona. Seminars presented by Anita Willoughby, Jill Marie Pasquinelli, Wayne Hackett, Muriel Carlton, Philomena Dooley, Cynthia Broshi, Lynne Pflueger, Janet Oliver, Carlos Gutterres, Sara Harper, Ian Harris, Iole Lebensztajn, Jed Schwartz, Susan Schwartz, Matthias Roth and Michael Wenninger.
