What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?
Jin… Man of knowing and compassion
Specifically translated from Japanese as “Creator’s art through compassionate man”, this is a gentle placement of the hands on the clothed body that usually involves a sequence of two to ten specific areas located on energetic pathways or channels. These Jin Shin Jyutsu sequences are called “flows”.
The Basic Concept
The body is an energetic vehicle and our hands are like the jumper cables that recharge the battery of the vehicle. This “battery” is the body’s life essence or “chi”.
When one has blockages along energy pathways the body then has trouble cleaning and rebuilding the areas affected. Once our energy channels are freed of their blockages, the body knows what to do and can again provide the balanced degrees of flow needed to correct a condition.
Origins of the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu
Over one hundred years ago in Japan, Jiro Murai, a resident scholar, recovered from a life-threatening health condition when he rediscovered the ancient hand positions shown in the Buddhist images. He vowed to study more and devoted his life to sharing his findings.
Mary Lino Burmeister, visiting Japan in the 1940’s, received treatments from Jiro Murai, who asked her to study with him and take what she learned as his gift to America.
Beginning in the 1960’s Mary taught classes and for twenty years gave Jin Shin Jyutsu sessions to hundreds. Over the years she also taught classes to thousands. She developed a core group of her most advanced students in the 70’s and 80’s to assist her in teaching Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is currently taught in close to 30 countries with practitioners located worldwide.
